Have your Jam and eat it!
I've just watched Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland on DVD (love it!) - the cartoon version was one of my most loved fairy tales and cartoons as a kid - the colourful/creative characters Alice stumbles across on her journey (whilst she's high), the in-depth meanings from the story (touching on subjects such as drug use, rediscovering yourself, growing up and making choices, pedophilia, mathematics), and along with the gorgeous, imaginatively created, immensely colorfully detailed Wonderland (almost as alluring as Wonka's Chocolate Factory!) contributes in making this story an unforgettable piece.
Something I picked out from the film was the Red Queen's speech "You know, the rule is, jam to-morrow and jam yesterday -- but never jam to-day"...this got me thinking - I didn't get the riddle at first...I LOVE MY JAM - I'm a proper fan - Jam on toast, fresh bread, scones, peanut butter and jam!!! - it's a sweet treat.
But why could I only have my jam tomorrow, or yesterday (but I didn't get any - did I miss my chance?) but NEVER able to get any today? (right now) - Moving myself away of the sweet jam we spread on toast. As a designer, we're always on the lookout in producing our own home-made Jams. "Jam" in this context, for those of you reading and thinking - "what's she on about!?" is referenced as something pleasant - such as an opportunity.
Recently I have been reeeeally busy balancing everything but how much of everything can one person do!? I have been reflecting on the answers to this question for a while. I'd like to prove the Red Queen wrong - and have already had Jam on my bread this morning :) - Make your own sweet Jam and eat it ALL yourself! (it won't get handed to you on a plate and the jar bought off the shelf was made by someone who was bothered in venturing out for himself so why cant we!?).
The World Cup's on (still 2 weeks of it left - pah!) - England beat Slovenia on Monday and the whole country's gone crazy about how fantastic the team is - paper headline's shouting how we've proved that we're easily the most feared team in world football and full of world class talent - (C'mon, they didn't play THAT well! One measly win and they think they're top class! 1-0!??, plus it was either put on the performance of your life - or else you're OUT, shameful and more slaughtering on the team would hail when they get back home). Hopefully England will be Jam making tomorrow afternoon against Germany? - I'm fed up of hearing references to 1966 - let's change the storyline!
